The Catholic ‘ Holy Days ‘ of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, November 1 and 2 are special dates every year.
The Day of the Dead, November 2, is a state holiday in many European countries, focusing on family and close friends gathering at cemeteries to remember and pray for friends and relatives who have died.
It is a Europe wide tradition for people to place bouquets of flowers on the graves of dead relatives.
Usually, a candle is also lit and placed next to the grave headstone.
As darkness falls the cemeteries are evocatively lit by the thousands of flickering candles in their protective lamp holders.
