Cut no ice
If something cuts no ice with somebody then it will not persuade them to change their opinion about something.
“He has provided an excuse for not being at work yesterday, but it cuts no ice with me.”
Origin
Some believe the phrase relates to ice-skating. Skates must have their blades sharp enough to cut into the ice to move easily, otherwise they are worthless.
