The past perfect progressive tense describes and puts emphasis on the progress of an action which took place before another event in the past.
It is created by using the following: had been + verb with ing.
Positive sentence:
They had been (They’d been) playing football.
Negative sentence:
She had not (hadn’t) been waiting too long.
Question:
Had you been working on this long?
EXAMPLES:
He had not been waiting more than 15 minutes before you came.
When I arrived at work my colleagues had already been talking about our new boss.
I was very tired because I had been working in the woods the day before.
She had been feeding lions when she tripped and fell.
