Precious Treasure Found Near an Old Castle

A young couple spotted something glittering in the grass while walking around  the Royal Castle of Likava in Central Slovakia in March 2019.

When they came closer they were stunned to see 1,800 silver denarii, a groschen and two golden ducats.

The coins are dated to the end of the 15^th century.

The treasure was evidently dug by wild boars looking for something to eat.

The couple handed the treasure over to the Regional Office of Culture and Monuments.
