Jánošíkové Diery Gorge
Definitely a nice hiking trail located in the nature reservation Rozsutec with numerous waterfalls along the way.
Travel
Train: Sliač – Vrútky /may need to change from fast to a slow train/ – Varín, Bus: Varín – Terchová /you may need to walk (20 mins) from the Varín train stop to the village centre to board a bus at the bus stop in front of the local school. Then, depending on the bus service you either get off at the Terchová village centre stop and walk 1,5 km up the main road to get to the trail entrance or there is a bus service which will get you right there. Instead of coming back to the entrance trail point you can follow a tourist sign to the village of Štefanová and get back to Terchová either by bus or on foot along the main road (appr. 3,5 km).
Šútovský Waterfall and quarry
Very nice and not demanding (2-hour long hike) hike and potential swimming in a flooded quarry, but at your own discretion.
Travel
Train: Sliač – Vrútky. Change at Vrútky to Šútovo-Ratkovo for a slow train. You will have to cross an extremely busy road and then turn right and walk along the road. Turn to the left on the first turn (appr. after 300 meters). Walk to the village of Šútovo and then follow the waterfall tourist signs.
Trek: Trangoška – Štefanička (cottage) – Čertovica in the Low Tatras
A five to six -hour-long trek in the mountain range of the Low Tatras. After overcoming 600 meters of elevation you will get to the Štefanikova cottage (nicknamed as Štefanička), just below the highest peak of Dumbier, and then hiking on the mountain ridge at the elevation of 1700 meters with unbeatable views into steep and deep valleys. The last part is a steep descent into the Čertovica place. The total length of the trip is about 12 kilometers.
Travel
Train: Sliač – Brezno, appr. 1 hour.
Bus: Brezno – Trangoška, appr. 25 mins
BACK
Bus: Čertovica – Brezno, appr. 30 mins
Train: Brezno – Sliač
