
Sour grapes
The phrase is used to describe a negative attitude of someone to something they want to have and they cannot have it themselves.
“Their criticism is just sour grapes.”
Origin
The phrase comes from a fable of Aesop’s called “The Fox and the Grapes”. A fox sees a juicy bunch of grapes but cannot reach them. So he decides to walk away saying “the grapes were sour anyway, and I never really wanted them.
