The term superfood was coined for marketing purposes to sell foods with health benefits.

It was first used in a Canadian newspaper back in 1949 to promote nutritional qualities of a muffin.

The marketing of products labeled as superfoods is prohibited in the European Union unless it is supported by scientific research.

Here are some of the foods that are considered superfoods: berries, green tea, eggs, nuts, kefirgarlic, ginger, turmeric.
