The Clock Tower of Banska Bystrica

The Leaning Tower of Pisa may receive the most attention. Nevertheless, Slovakia has a leaning tower of its own.

The Clock Tower in Banska Bystrica was built in 1552 to stop thieves from stealing from local copper and silver mines.

Three centuries later, it was discovered during reconstruction work that the tower leans 65 centimeters from its vertical axis.

The tower also has a wooden stairway which consists of 101 steps and shows the visitor a beautiful view of the city’s main square and nearby mountains.
