Dubrovnik is a Croatian town on the Adriatic sea and it belongs to the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
Its name can be loosely translated as „oak grove“, since „dub“ means oak in Croatian.
Apart from swimming in the sea, tourists of the town can explore several historical places, such as forts, bastions, churches and monasteries, which date back to 7th century.
No wonder Old Town of Dubrovnik was chosen as a scenery for HBO’s award winning “Game of Thrones” TV series.
WORDS
loosely translated: not exact translation.
grove: trees planted closed together.
bastion: a fortified place
no wonder (small wonder): it is not surprising.
