Fordlândia is a town deep in the Amazonian rainforest in Brasil.
This industrial town was established by Henry Ford to secure cultivated rubber for the automotive industry in 1928.
The town was divided into two parts, for the Brazilian workers and the American managers.
The project was a failure as the trees and men were prone to disease and synthetic rubber was developed.
Ford abandoned the town in 1945, but there are still couple of thousand people living there.
WORDS
to cultivate: to grow a particular crop.
