Commemoration of the Dead

LISTEN HERE

November 2

On November 2 people visit graveyards and cemeteries in order to pray and decorate their family graves with flowers, candles and incense.

This day is also called All Souls’ Day in Christian Church or Day of the Dead in Latin America, which has ancient Aztec roots and that later fused with Catholic traditions.

Furthermore, it has an ecumenical dimension when people from different Christian denominations pray together.

WORDS
incense: a substance that is burnt to give a sweet smell, especially at religious ceremonies.
to fuse: to merge, to combine together.
denomination: a religious group that has slightly different beliefs from other groups of the same religion.
