The U.S. Geographical Survey determined a point near the town of Rugby, North Dakota, was a center of North America in 1931.

Locals erected a 4,6 m tall rock obelisk marking the center, which was later moved to a slightly different location due to the expansion of US Highway 2 in 1971.

Rugby was founded in 1886 and today it has a population of 2,500 people.

The tallest man in the world ever, Clifford Thompson, claiming  to be 2,62 m tall, was born in Rugby.
