A lot of food and drink, we buy every day, is packaged in containers made of plastic.

But did you know that it may take from 100 to 450 years for a plastic bottle to biodegrade?

Here are a few examples of the time needed for a thing to degrade:

apple core – 15 days
can – 15 years
chewing gum – 50 years
glass – thousands of years
paper – 4 months
plastic bag – more than 20 years
trimmer line – probably never

We don’t have to become environmental extremists, but we should start thinking about the environment in a rational way.

WORDS
to degrade: to break down or decompose.
