The Spanish municipality of Trigueros del Valle voted to give the same rights to animals as citizens of their town.
So, human and ‘non-human’ citizens are on an equal footing in law.
Although, this by-law has been greatly appreciated by animal lovers, there are still claims that human rights legislation should only be applicable to humans and no other life form.
