The First Commercial Chewing Gum was Developed in 1848

Tooth imprints were found on 5,000 year -old chewing gum in Finland.

It was made from birch bark tar and was believed to have antiseptic properties.

The commercialization of this product  took place mainly in the United States where American Indians were observed to chew resin made from sap of spruce trees.

John B. Curtis developed and sold the first chewing gum called “ the State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum” in 1948.
