Raffaella Petriny, a Catholic nun, is the first female president of the smallest state in the world Vatican City.
She was born in 1969 in Rome and is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, a community founded in the United States.
Her perpetual vows encompassed the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience.
She earned a Ph.D. in social sciences in 2015.
Petriny also teaches welfare and sociology of economics at the University of St. Thomas Aquinas.
