The first call from a mobile phone was placed on April 3, 1973 by Martin Cooper, the director of research at Motorola.

The first mobile phones weighed close to a kilogram and cost $4,000.

Nowadays cell phones are a lot cheaper and are used by millions of people around the world.

Who did Cooper call? Joel Engel, who worked at Bell Labs, a competitor of Motorola.
