Vit Jedlicka, the self-proclaimed president of the newest country in the world, seized the opportunity and on April 13, 2015 formed a new state in the area which was terra nullius.
Liberland lies on the Croatia-Serbia border along the west bank of the Danube river.
It is the third smallest sovereign state, after the Vatican and Monaco. Its total area is approximately 7 km².
The motto of Liberland is “To live and let live”.
