A cheap shot 

A criticism or  unfair verbal attack on someone or  a physical blow against someone who is unprepared.

“I don’t appreciate John always taking cheap shots at me.”
“He took a cheap shot against his opponent before the round started.” 

Origin
This phrase was originally used in U.S. football jargon for  a player who tackles his opponent with his helmet – in a sense of unfair hit.
