Empress Maria Theresa was the absolute sovereign who ruled the Austro-Hungarian empire for forty years in the 18th century.

She gave birth to sixteen children and still managed to implement several significant reforms.

She wanted to educate her empire and introduced the schooling system compulsory for children between ages 6-12 of all levels of society.   

Her other reforms included the areas of public health, administration, forestry and military.
